An iced pod is a regular pod with a coolant mixed in. Most Canadian pods use WS-23, a synthetic cooling agent that triggers the cold receptors in your mouth and throat without tasting of anything — which is why a watermelon ice pod tastes like cold watermelon rather than watermelon mint. A few brands use menthol instead, and those lean noticeably minty. The base flavour underneath is identical to the regular version.
Three things change when the coolant goes in. Throat feel: the draw feels colder and sharper, closer to a menthol cigarette. Sweetness: cooling slightly mutes sugar, so very sweet flavours often taste more balanced iced. Fatigue: ice numbs the palate a little, which makes it easier to vape the same flavour all day without getting tired of it — and harder to taste subtle notes in tobacco or cream flavours.
Ice or regular: how to choose
Choose ice if you smoked menthol cigarettes, you vape steadily through the day, you like fruit flavours but find them too sweet, or you vape in warm weather and want the draw to feel fresh. Ice also flatters simpler fruit flavours — banana, peach, pineapple and guava all get a lift from it.
Choose regular if you want tobacco, coffee, coconut or dessert profiles, which the coolant fights with; if cooling makes your throat feel dry or scratchy; or if you want to taste a layered blend like a fruit nectar as it was mixed.
